The AMA has full time professionals working on National issues, however in most areas of the country the AMA relies on volunteers to get the job done, on state and local issues. The AMA and Blue Ribbon Coalition are great organizations, which I encourage you to join. District 36 is the only AMA District to have a full time professional looking out for your interests here in California, since 1988. D36 LAO (legislative action officer) Bill Dart has been instrumental in improving communication with the U. S. Forest service, California State parks & County parks. Bill Dart works with the California OHV commission and many other agencies, enhancing your riding opportunities throughout California. Bill Dart successfully negotiated a compromise, following over two years of talks, with the CARB (California Air Resources Board), who were mandated by the Federal government EPA) to clean up California's air, which resulted in a regulation, agreed to by the manufacturers, to ban nearly all two strokes in California, Bill Dart built a coalition with AMA, District 37 and District 38 who each agreed to support a non confrontational approach (legal battle). Bill Dart opened lines of communication with CARB, then he successfully negotiated a compromise, which allows the continued use of two stroke motorcycles in most of the State with only seasonal closures in areas with the greatest pollution. During this process, a side benefit was a delay in the implementation occurred and most illegal 98 two strokes continued to get GREEN STICKERS. Being confrontational with those who have been given the responsibility to manage our public lands and keep our air clean is not a successful game plan. Some ill informed individuals think they were sold out, but nothing could be further from the truth. That's where you come in. Politics is a numbers game and the more members you recruit to join D36, you help D36 LAO, Bill Dart, have a more effective voice supporting OHV. Starting with your membership in D36, you help Bill Dart have more political clout. D36 is made up of people who like to ride Dirt Bikes. We have racers, trail riders, volunteers, people who lend financial support, people like you who help us to improve your riding opportunities here in California. Join District 36 today! JOIN A DISTRICT 36 CLUB D36 has clubs all over Northern California. This is a great way to meet other riders in your area and learn about new places to ride. TEST YOUR RIDING SKILLS Of course, if you ever are inclined to try a competitive event, D36 sanctions more events than any other AMA District. We offer fun events for the whole family, family enduros, poker runs and the E class at most of our Enduros. The E class is a just for fun class which allows you to ride half of a full Enduro, eliminating the most challenging sections. We crown champions in Enduro, Cross Country and Scrambles. HANGTOWN Motocross and the Arena Cross in The San Jose "Shark Tank," are all sanctioned by AMA D36. Each time you ride an event, three dollars (up from $3 as of March 1999) of every entry goes directly to support the D36 LAO.
