Referee’s Meeting – March 20th, 2002
Referee’s Meeting – March 20th, 2002
Royal Motel – Vacaville, CA
Meeting called to order at 7:35 by President Eddie Diaz
No corrections to last months minutes
Competition: Jerry Fouts reported:
- Rider participation at events is up from last year.
- Club Moto having problems with insurance company reducing their limits to below standards for weekday practice.
Enduro: Alan Plumbridge reported:
- Wild Piglet Family enduro: Held at Clear Creek on 3/9/02. There were 180 entries, riders were sent out on a very mellow road section for the 1st loop that was set up for riders of all abilities, the 2nd loop consisted of more technical sections on the narrower jeep type of trails. For the start of the youth series we had 33 kids ride and enough girls to break the kids classes into boys & girls classes. The 2nd largest classes of the event were the C women’s with 17 & the C senior, which also had 17. Same day trophies were awarded. Riders had nothing but compliments on the course. No injuries reported.
- Wild Boar: Held at Clear Creek on 3/10/02 There were 144 entries, the club set up a 3-loop event with the C’s and A/B Super Senior & Gentlemen stopping after the 2nd loop, and all others rode the more technical 3rd loop. The 1st & 2nd loops were set up to increase difficulty as the ride went on and take points from the C’s in both loops and the B’s in the 2nd. A riders felt the 1st 2 loops were a little on the boring side. Due to a kid who didn’t turn in a scorecard on Sat the club spent time that afternoon looking for him and didn’t get a mileage marker pulled from the family event that was common course with loop 1. This resulted in a couple of B riders stopping 13 miles into the event and bumping their odo’s to 25 miles and waiting the 40 minutes to get back on what they thought was on time. Thus started a chain reaction of riders stopping and doing the same so the club ended up throwing out checks 2 & 3 that followed the errant mileage marker. Same day trophies were awarded. No injuries reported.
- Youth Series steward Dennie Conrad reported on the Family Enduro Youth classes.
- Next event Sawmill 4/6/02
- Polecat Enduro has been cancelled.
Dirt Track: Ralph Lee reported:
- 2 races into the series with 39 to go.
- 1st two events held at Club Moto. An average of 144 riders at each. No major problems just extremely cold.
- Clements will be held this weekend.
- Working on getting Dirt Track activity up on the website. Current technical issues with the website are delaying this.
Cross Country: Eddie Diaz reported:
- Old Crow: put on by the Redneck Roosters on 3/3/02. Conditions were very dusty. Scoring went ok for A’s and B’s and just a few small problems for the C’s. Problems getting course approved and it finally was approved on Sat.
- Hollister Phantom put on by the Ghostriders. Extreme mud and very rainy. The A and B race was shortened to an 1 ½ hours and the C’s were cut to just one hour. Lots of reroutes. No injuries reported during the race but one injury after the race.
- Thanks to the Redneck Roosters for helping the Ghostriders at signups.
Cross Country Youth: Al Fitch reported:
- Old Crow: Held at Carnegie by the Redneck Roosters on 3/3/02. There were 86 kids. The course was 3.2 miles and had some technical trails. It was Dry and Warm, very dusty. Scoring had some problems and didn’t run too smoothly. The kids all enjoyed the race.
- Phantom: Held at Hollister by the Ghostriders M/C. Extreme mud rained the whole race. Kids still rode and had a good time. The scoring system ran really well and there were no problems with the race.
Rulebook:
- The rulebooks are printed and ready to go out. You’ll see them soon.
LAO: Bill Dart reported:
- Blue Ribbon Coalition will be leading the lawsuit filed against the El Dorado Forest. Many groups including District 36 with our contribution of $5000 will support the Coalition. The Dirt Diggers have matched the Districts contribution of $5000 in support of the lawsuit. The 1st hearing will be held on April 15th in Sac. AMA will do a direct mailer to its CA members for contributions to the lawsuit.
- DMV: pressure on them for Red Sticker/Green Sticker issues. Red Stickers will be issued to red sticker bikes over the next two registration periods.
- Legislation in Sacramento: There was a bill introduced to reallocate OHV funds based on usage impact. Being opposed by administration and others. Already over ½ of the fund is going to conservation.
- Redding: They are trying to get Shasta Dam reopened. Shasta Dam has been closed since Sept. 11th 2001. BLM is backing away from the issue and wanted to push it on the Forest Service. Next week is a meeting to put pressure on the Forest Service and BL M.
- Carnegie: New Resource Ecologist Superintendent working with Carnegie. She made it very difficult to put on the Old Crow Hare Scramble. Looks like the back of the park will be closing for replanting. The front of the park has already been closed in most areas and they are now looking at the creek area for closure. The trail maintenance after a race is being monitored very closely.
- Santa Cruz riding area is still in the works.
- Legislation meeting/dinner went really well this year.
Old Business:
Reminder to all clubs: at a National Event district cards are not required according to AMA National Rules.
Good of Body:
- Cycle Gear has offered to pay for the embroidery on the jackets for next year’s banquet.
- Club participation is lacking from our members. We need to find a way to encourage riders to belong and participate with clubs and their races.

Voted to discontinue the district keeping books of out of state permits. Passed.
New Business:
Karen Gould has been doing Cycle News articles for Dirt Track without any compensation except for film and printing. Voted to compensate her $50 per article with a 20 article limit. Passed.
Committeemen Cards: we need to standardize committeemen responsibilities to maintain committeemen status. This would be a rulebook proposal.
Cross Country:
Still need a steward for Cross Country.
Scoring:
Scoring is being slowed down by the amount of data entry needed to prepare the computer for a race on race day. Need to have one scoring team in place to run all the races. We will need to purchase another laptop and scanner for the youth series. Voted-passed.
Bar Codes: Marc DeMarco reported:
We need to purchase some replacement barcodes to fill in the gaps in the numbers. Researching the cost for individual number replacement.
Website:
Looking at problems with site. Need further information before going forward with a solution. Having problems with upload feature.
Good of the Body:
Dayton/MRANN race: looking to pull out of the combined race. Issues with District rules vs. MRANN rules. Too many conflicts. Voted-Passed to not hold a dual point’s event. Will reconsider if it is ran with D36 rules and AMA cards required.
