Referee’s Meeting - May 15th 2002
Royal Motel - Vacaville, CA
Meeting called to order at 7:35 p.m. by president Eddie Diaz
Enduro: Allen Plumbridge reported:
- On 5/5 CERA held the Fools Gold Type Q Enduro in Georgetown. Record numbers of riders attended. There were 297 riders who left the line. The club was only 3 riders short of hitting the 300 rider limit. There were a 130 pre-entries. The rain earlier in the week left the conditions ideal, except the bees at gas. Riders were treated to an excellent event with a great course. Trails were in good condition thanks to the hard work put in by so many over the past year, maybe someone should put in some whoops so we don’t get to spoiled. Course consisted of lots of single track with road sections used for the transfer section; speed average was set at about 18mph which kept most riders on time to the known controls. Special tests varied from tight technical to more open single track with a total of 4 tests.
- No injuries were reported.
Youth Series: Dennie Conrad reported:
- No events, next one is CERA training wheels Family Enduro at Foresthill, this is round 2 of the youth series.
- For 2003 Kawasaki has offered contingency for the Youth Enduro and Cross Country series. Get your new Kawasaki’s to cash in on this.
Cross Country: Chris Sykes reported:
- Outlaw Hare Scramble on 4/28 was held at Cow Mountain. We had 283 riders. There was a lot of dust, rocks, and pretty fast. The A’s did 2 laps on a 37 mile course. The C’s did 1 ½ laps, which worked out well for them. The scoring went well, thanks Mike and his crew! All results were out on time and Robby Zimmerman won the O/A. Thanks to North Bay M/C for all their help. Also Pat and Grace with AMA and all the district people that showed up to pitch in. BLM was also a great group to work with. Good event.
- Next event is Prime Time on October 6th.
Youth Cross Country: Al Fitch reported:
- 43 kids for the race. All went well.
Dirt Track: Ralph Lee reported:
- For the month of Aug. the turn out was about 125-150 riders. We have the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend Amateur Nationals.
- Gene Romero & West Coast Flat Track series had been OK’d by AMA due to a new "affiliate program" status granted to Romero by AMA. Despite our resentment AMA is letting Romero stand with his series for now.
Banquet: Kevin Yost reported:
- We need commitments from people on responsibilities. Start getting banquet prizes.
LAO:
- Hearing on Oceano Dunes and commission voted to extend OHV permit for one year and it was a unanimous vote for us.
- Stanislaus Forest- Forestry has prison crews working on trails. The forest managers had a meeting and after brainstorming bad OHV idea’s it got leaked from the management, thus they were investigated for their actions.
- Boxer’s "Wilderness" bill is out now, it wants to close more riding areas. Proposed shut down of 2.5 acres.
- Sound Law. January 1st 2003 the 96 dbs will be the new limit. Take this seriously this time! They are.
- Commissioners probably will appoint Greenie to our 7 member commission. This will make 4 of 7 environmentalist.
- Stoneyford: Spotted Owl research was done last weekend and the results were that the off road users didn’t bother the owls.
- Carnegie: on going problems continue. No new up dates.
- New Manager for Clear Creek.
- NBMC club donated a $500 bonuses to Bill Dart.
- Doolittle just made a proposal to drop all CA Desert from wilderness studies (to combat Boxer’s bill). This is good news for us!
Old Business:
- Question in the D36 officials having the right to pull noisy bikes. Maybe not to DQ but to warn. Possibly pass out a District letter of the new limits.
New Business:
- Clarify "out of state bike sticker" Issue for national. If a rider from out of state has a sticker then they are OK. This is for out of stators with no bike ID that will need the stickers for Nationals.
- Formula 100 bikes are considered mini-cycles and are thus not allowed to race with big bikes. Meaning the Hollister National on Sat.
- Scott Reynolds put on the Board of Directors to replace Bill Dart who has moved out of the area.
Clark Collins is Head of the Blue Ribbon Coalition and will be attending our next meeting on June 19th.
