Cross Country: Dean Joyner reported
- There are 9 events scheduled for next year. The championship for ’02 has been awarded to Brian Sperle.
- Nov. 3 was Lillypution put on by the Dirt Diggers M/C at the Prairie City OHV park. We had 443 riders. There were no protest and no injuries.
- Nov. 17th Wilseyville put on by 2 + 2 was perfect conditions. Riders loved the trails and the scoring went well. Almost 500 riders attended including the youth series riders.
Youth Cross Country: Al Fitch reported:
- Lillypution had 89 kids. Both courses for the kids were great
. Scoring had a small problem with the ink running out on the printer.
Wilseyville had 83 kids. It was a woods track. It seemed the course was too short and the kids were catching up to each other too quickly. All else went well.
CLUBS: The youth series is turning into a serious series. These kids are our up and coming future C class. Make sure your courses are long enough and appropriate for these guys and girls.
Points are posted and the championships are decided.
Enduro: Alan Plumbridge reported:
- 10/20/02 Jackhammer hosted by the Oakland M/C. The 1st event of the fall series ran in extremely dry conditions, despite this the club was able to run a course that tested the riders and maintained the higher speed averages which kept riders spaced out. 54 A’s, 56 B’s, and 110 C’s entered plus 30 E class riders. 3 injuries were reported. 1 broken rib, 1 injured knee, 1 broken leg resulting from a non-participant hitting the rider head on, the riders with broken rib and broken leg were airlifted out.
- 11/02/02 Cowbell hosted by Hayward M/C. Course consisted of single track and fire roads for transfer sections with the famous 20 mile special test through the Pine Mtn area. Conditions were typical of the previous fall events featuring vast amounts of dust. 54 A’s, 56 B’s, and 91 C entries. One injury reported as a result of a rider turning around after getting off course and running into another riders, one rider ended up with a broken hand and collarbone the other had an injured shoulder.
- 11/10/02 WFO hosted by Valley Climbers. The WFO had the fortune of having rain in the previous week and should have brought out high numbers of riders but with the rain still falling Sunday morning a lot of riders decided that they just couldn’t ride without the dust and packed up and left. Conditions were reported as excellent and riders enjoyed the course, spending very little time on the area roads. 62 A’s, 47 B’s, and 59 C entries. One injury reported, a broken hip resulting in the rider being airlifted out.
- 11/16/02 49er Q hosted by Polka Dots. Conditions were as good as they get, course consisted of a mix of single track and fire roads, with ample time for most C riders to maintain their schedule in the transfer sections, of course this didn’t make some of the A’s happy. There were a total of 4 tests but at 1 scores were not written down at the start of one and the end of the other on the riders scorecards, as I haven’t received the results I’m hoping that they were recorded in the backup books so the test counts. There were about 240 entries and no injuries reported.
- Note: at all the events, sound testing was taken very seriously by the FS, and riders were stopped from riding the event if they didn’t pass. Next events are the Bearfoot Family on 11/24 and the re-scheduled Training Wheels on 12/8.
Sound testing at Hayward Kawasaki on Saturday Dec. 14th at 10:a.m to 3 p.m.
Dirt Track: Ralph Lee reported:
- Seasons over! Working on awards for the banquet. Lodi’s Sat. closing race was wild. We had one suspension on a rider that demonstrated unsportsman-like conduct. It was some tight racing for the championships, there will be one tie-breaker to make.
- Kurt Cowell is looking to help sponsor and promote some races on larger tracks. Specifically ½ mile and 1 mile dirt tracks. Stockton offered August and September at Stockton Fairgrounds for a few events. That is a 1 mile course. Salinas has a ½ mile, which is a possibility. Kurt is looking for some help to put these events together.
WebMaster: Brian Butler reported:
- The uploading program is working again. We are looking for a new host that will be more reliable in the future. Working on redoing the whole web site for a new look in ’03. We will also be adding the youth series to the home page.
