ISDE - Brive, France

Posted Monday 8/27 at 11:45AM
Just finished Day 1 here in Brive, France.

The weather has been humid and hot in the 90's.

The prep did not start out good as the USA container did not arrive until Saturday morning, just a few hours before we all had to impound. Brian Sperle and myself already had our KTM rental bikes fairly well dialed in, but Tim Stowe had to rush to get his bike finalized.

I thought I would breeze through impound, but I found my rear taillight burned out. Luckily, the KTM tecnicians were on the ball and they changed my bulb in no time.

Day 1 was almost 200 miles, but had lots of paved road and fast trail sections.

DNFs today included Trophy Team member Patrick Garrahan. The story I heard was that he was almost done with the day when his rear tire came off the rim. He then rode on the rim for awhile before he destroyed the wheel. Also, Suzy Moody crashed and fell on the handlebar with her stomach area.

Only two fairly tough trail sections and no bottlenecks. However, in the 400 4strokes, someone knocked down a turn arrow and about 25 of us missed a turn. So, most of the 400 4strokes dropped route points - I dropped 5 minutes in the section I should have zeroed. Hugh Fleming is going to appeal, and with the number of riders who were late it stands a good chance of being thrown out.

The long mileage meant I did not finish until after 6pm. I changed a rear tire and mousse in about 7 minutes and changed the engine oil too.

Hopefully Day 2 will be cooler. We are running the same course again.

You can check the official ISDE page for results. Not sure of the O/A results, but the I think Tim Stowe was 246th and I was 282nd just on special test times.
